Lets Talk coon snaring here. I`m interested in how you guys prefer to have your snares set up. Entanglement situation or non-entanglement situation ?

Yeah, that's a good question and hopefully we'll have some people chime in with their preferences.

snareman, Thanks for the info on your new forum. This is going to be great! I'd prefer not to have my coons tangled in most situations. However, with the 6 ft. extension cables I use, it is practically impossible. I'd like to learn to neck snare and put them down. We are required to use a "non-locking" lock here and I mostly use the penny size washers. This is another reason I don't like to tangle without dispatch-the way the washer is bent bruises the leather. I like 42" of 5/64 gac cable with a 12g. swivel that I build myself. snaresRcool

Forgot... I like 14 ga. wire for supports because it is convenient to use on several species and easy for carrying etc. I just use sticks and stuff at the set and don't have to carry a gob of gizmos in with me. That's why I like it so much.

I prefer non-entanglement myself. I use large washer locks and 3/32 cable. They seem to be easy on the pelts. And if I get there dispatch the coon, quickly remove the snare, pull and streatch the leather where the snare was, the "snare marks" are greatly reduced.
If a person was able to consistantly neck snare the coons without alot of misses or having to spend way too much time at each set, then entanglement would be to your advantage.
I have a theory that coons reach up and pull on the snares arond thier neck and eventually put one or both feet through the loop. Do you all think this is possible? using relaxing locks

Snareman give Kyle Katz's new relaxalock a try looks to be a winner!I have heard nothing but good about them .In the morning I'll give them a shot on beaver.I would rather tangle them up on the shortest swiveled snare posable.Don
