What is it? I've seen a recent article in FFG and the fellow says he uses it on many species. What are the opinions out there?

Hello snaresRcool! Welcome to SnaremanTalk.com.
Crucible is just a fancy term. 1/16" comes in 2 kinds of "lay".... 7x7 twist and 1x19. Crucible is normally meant to mean the 1x19 variety.
In breaking strength when comparing similar diameters, the 1x19 is stronger and the individual strands of cable are larger.
1x19 is 12 strands going one direction wrapped around 6 strands around 1 going the opposite direction. This cable is stiffer and without any modifications to the cable, it does make a more open loop compared to the 7x7 twist.
Cables have their advantages... and disadvantages. There's a post on this topic that has taken off yet.
