I have always liked a kill pole for snaring a variety of animals. In fact, it's my number one way for snaring mink. Kill poles are an efficient system for snaring because it is many things at once. It is a unit to support the snare, anchor the snare, used as guiding and is portable entanglement when there is none nearby. Below is a pic of a kill pole I use for coon, fox, otter, etc. It's made from a 4 1/2' ft. 1/2" rebar. I drilled a hole through the center to attach the snare. I made a short piece that is also swivelled made from 3/32" cable, then the loop is made from 5/64" 7x7 on this particular pole. For the support wire, I wrapped a short length of #11 annealed wire. I don't use long snares on a kill pole. To me it lengthens the time to wrap up when there is excess slack. It's a very efficient and quick system to use when you don't have far to travel from a vehicle. If the situation calls for it, I'll disguise and blend in the kill pole. When a catch is made, the 3/32" part is permanent to the pole and is swivelled and all I have to do is replace the loop part with a fresh snare, move the pole up or down the trail a few feet and I'm back in business!
