would like some feed back on what you think of our 24 hour check laws on snares, it sure would be nice to have a 72 hour check like our drowning sets or coniber sets. And it would sure be nice to snare cats in minn, i believe this year you can start snaring in the farmland zone, thats a step in the right direction. Everybody what do you think.

I would love an extended check time as there are places I would love to set up, but the extra time it would take, due to them being further away, prevents this.
My only concern is people not using good judgement. Animals caught don't fare too well in a snare as it is and add the possibility of an incidental in one for 48+ hrs, problems may arise. In early season and even days when it's colder, provided the sun is out, fur can spoil... especially fox. Then there's the extended lines that will develop due to added check lengths which could promote some snares being either forgotten or abandon.. while still be set. I trust myself and my own judgement, but there's the minority that will not use common sense, nor care too and since we're in an industry where the few outweighs the actions of the majority, we have to watch what we do as trappers.
If you have your snares attached to slide rigs to deeper water, you can still have extended checks now on fisher, coon, otter and beaver. I mention them because they frequently travel the water's edge and can be snared and drowned.
I'm thinking cats and farmland snaring will be allowed this year. We'll see.
