It does help some after you shoot them to have them draining as long as they can prior to cleaning. You can also plug the hole some with napkin or towel as you skin. I hate it when I'm skinning and have most of the pelt off to have blood come out the bullet hole all over the pelt... then it needs to be cleaned, etc, which adds more time. That is a major reason why I neck snare to dispatch my coon; so there's no messing with blood.

Used a 220 Belisle on all my coon I caught in coyote sets last year....tapped them and then "placed" bodygripper on them...pretty slick.

my bro and i use the back end of our throwin hawks and hit the critter at the base of the skull where the neck and head meet. it seperates the spinal cord from the brain, the critter dont feel a thing. but if ya are gonna sell the skull, i suggest using a hog snare to remove the animal from the snare and choke it out. there is no blood then.

I would think it would be quite a job to choke a coon down, maybe not i've never tried it probably never will.....I kill most of my cats by choking cats die easy though.

You can dispatch a coon by using the method you use on cat BUT I wouldn't recommend it. I would recommend using a 22 short or CB. I am with Corey though the best ones are at the end of a slide wire.

i usually just shoot them but ocasionally when i get a big one and want to make sure it stays nice i will take a nice sapling about an inch thick to its nose, then when its out cold i simply step on its chest and they go fairly quick no blood to deal with.
