lucas all I've every used for cable for earth anchors is 7 by 7 3/32 cable, from mink to coyotes and never had a problem. And only use 7 by 7 1/8 inch cable for drowning rigs for otter and beaver. Never tried 1 by 9 cable for anything so I can't say for sure if it works or not. Thats my 2 cents worth!

For your application, the 7x7 will work just fine. To learn more about cable, go to the board about lingo used on forums and snareman. There you will read about cable differences. Here is the link snareman.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=slangThanks, Snareman

First off, look around for your resources. Example: I have an almost unlimited supply of 1/8, SS, 7X7 cable. This is the cable commonly used in chicken houses to control windows, feed worms, and watering systems. When new houses are built, and the old house torn down or refitted, I go in and salvage the cable. Rarely do I find cable suitable for snares, but I have lots & lots of cable suitable for earth anchors, extension cables, and drowning cables. This stuff is practically indestructable.
However, I would not look at 1X19 in 3/32 as being inferior. I am sure that there are folks out there besides me that have re-used beaver snares which were made of 1X19. This is something you cannot do with 7X7 cable. Point being that 7X7 can kink up worse than 1X19, and cannot be re-used for anything but extension cables or earth anchors. 7X7 is too twised to provide a reliable drowning cables.
Which is better? Well in my case, the 1/8 7X7 SS is he best and will survive many catches. As I have it, and have it cheap, I use it for all of these general purpose uses.
I have also used 7X7 3/32, and 1X19 3/32. If I had only those two to choose between, I would use the 7X7 as extension cable, and the 1X19 for earth anchors and drowners.
Some snaremen are begining to leave their earth anchors in the ground at good locatoions they will visit next season. As long as that suits your landowner, more porer to you. However, 1X19 is more successuable to rust. So it might not be the first choice, if it were to left in the ground from season to season.
Adios, 45/70, RKBA !!!
