Just seen on trapperman someone posted that oil barrels were at $63.00 dollars a barrel. If fur prices would be like the gas prices we all would be rich, with steel prices going up its going to be hard to make money trapping anymore, or at least come ahead to buy more supplies. I feel sorry for the guys out there that still trap for a liveing, I know there not to many but still a few die hards. I don't know what the world coming to but sometimes it does'nt look to good.

I hope it don't get too high. I run with a Chevy 4x4 at around 15 miles a gallon, so if I had a lot of steel out and am travelling, I feel the day to day pressure to bring home fur. Although I am doing it for fun, there is a financial return I do realize and plan for and the higher gas prices is just another factor to consider. Although trapping is hard work, I consider a special time for me that I look forward to each season. I just hope the snow don't get too deep so I can still get to most all my areas with a common 4 wheel drive truck. Last year I got cut short and lost access to all my areas due to too much snow.

I kind of hope the higher gas prices keep lots of people home, my competition, spotlighters, coon hunters, coyote & fox hunters, weekend trappers, ect... that will mean more for me! ;D

"I feel sorry for the guys out there that still trap for a liveing" I expect that most of those that make a living are not just trapping for fur: Live market, ADC, etc... In either case, we either will find away to recoupe the expenses, or take a loss. For a hobby trapper like me, it isn't so vital. As much as I drive, I know I can get enough fur to pay gas and replace some equipement. For those who run longer lines, it may be a diff. story.

I'm not sure if it's gas or fur prices, but I've been to five conventions this year and attendance seems to be down some. Hope this trend doesn't continue into the summer and fall conventions.
