If you sell coon by the Carcass does this mean just freezing them and selling them whole. if so do you gut them or just kill em and freeze em and do they pay more by the Carcass than skinning them

After the coon is dispatched put it in a plastic trash bag and freeze it whole. Two days befor your going to sell take the coon out of the freezer and let them thaw out. The buyer will want them thawed out good so he can check the condition. Put up or finished fur usually brings a little more money but only if they are correctly done. If your just starting out I suggest selling them whole unskined. Then while your at the fur buyers selling have him show you the proper way to finish fur. Most local buyers will take the time to show you. Hope this helps.

Put your coon up. Don't waste the fur. At current prices, about the only way many Southern trappers can make good with coons is to sell both the fur and the meat. Once skinned, gut the carcass, leave the head on, wash off well. You might want to leave 1 hind foot on the carcass as proof of what it is. Freeze individually. Some folks sell to brokers, and others retail directly to customers. At current fur prices, nicely done Southern coons for meat will usually bring about as much as the put-up fur. Both brokers and direct customers will appreciate a cleaned, individually frozen coon. If you build the reputation for selling well handled coon meat, you will probably get a premium just as with well handled fur. Adios, 45/70, RKBA !!!
