ok i have a question.. two of my snares were closed half way from 10 in diameter down to about 5 in diameter and pulled towards the creek, and the castor mounds werent disturbed.. beavers do destroy the castor mounds, right ? anyone know what would have caused this? and on one slide, 2 snares were set. the one in 10 in of water was only set an inch underwater. and it was the one that was triggered.
the other of the 2, wasnt triggered, it was in 6 in of water, but 2/3 of the snare was underwater. anyone have any ideas, on what happened??

Could be muskrats crawling thru, the wave action from the water, the wind, birds,etc...Or beaver might have plowed thru without getting caught, it happens. Make sure your snares are well stabilized and loop size is appropiate. One other thing....dry fire the snare to check to see that the snare closes quickly. At times I have experienced locks and cable that do not function well...lock is slow to close and or cable is twisted or bent slightly...this could cause lock to be close sluggishly.... hope this helps

well checked on them today and it seems to be muskrat.. well i need some help im trying to snare beaver that only come thru her property when it floods, and when the creek floods it comes up really high, so all my snares that were set would be underwater. the creek doesnt stay flooded for long, it can go all the way down overnite, so i have no idea how to catch these beaver, i cant set these snares way up in her yard either cuz there would be no good place to set them, she has only a few large walnut trees. and i wouldnt know exactly how high the water would come up. any help on these, ive only snared a few beavers and that was in a small pond, i had quick success on those beavers, but in a creek where the water level varies so much after the slightest rain, i have no idea what to do ...any help?
