For K9 sets...
How do you avoid leaving too much scent around the sets? Gloves? No Kneeling? Set fast?
Or are you not concerned about scent?

In early season I dont worry too much with footholds, but I just bend over to make my sets and if its cold I wear gloves.the exception would be blind trail sets then as little scent as possable Snareing however I use all precautions to leave less scent in the area. I wear gloves, walk into the trails from the sides, and check with optics.

While I suspect that the folks who reason that canids are pretty well familiar with human scent, and are not too spooked by it, if you work quickly and carefully, are right, I cannot bring myself to leave the "old ways" behind me, and go "bare hands". It cannot hurt, and may help. Lots of trappers do not kneel, but make their sets bending down, thus no kneeling pads. I still use a kneeling cloth simply because it gives me a convenient place to put my dug-up dirt until I am ready to use it in the set, or a place to hold it if I am using waxed-dirt, etc. On the other hand, I do believe it might hurt your numbers if you are downright dirty. Your going to leave scent no matter what.I use to be super paranoid about scent, but over the years found that it wasnt as important as other things, like making sure your trap is bedded solid.I think more canine traps are dug up due to poor bedding than anything. All I wear on the line is clean clothes washed in scent free soap,a pair of good boots not rubber, just hunting boots and brown cotton jersey gloves and sometimes leather ones.I'm a tall guy,so I sometimes kneel at the set, usually only one knee and dont use a kneeling pad.But thats gonna change, its getting hard on the kness.I agree with 45/70,if your dirty,it will hurt your succes.

I run a mixed line, I`m in the water awhile then on land then back in the water so I always have on hip waders. As for gloves I use the cheap canvas gloves. If you check your land sets from a distance any human scent you may have left will be gone in a day or so anyway. The main thing is to not walk up to your traps everyday, stay back aways and then if you see something that needs fixen go in and fix it.
