I would really like to get back into my bow stands again this year. I kind of put that stuff off the last 3 years. I love hunting with gun too.
N.E. way... I remember once prescouting I found this nice subtle ridge that went through the woods and it was thick that boarded a meadow, then got thin as it went by it. The deer travelling that wanted security would have to go by this one spot, so I pre-limbed a tree a month in advance for bow opener... I used an Ol' Man climber.
On opening morning I remember it was cool out with a light mist that ended shortly. I was in my stand while it was still dark, but dawn started to break quickly. As light started to brighten the woods, I can start making out shadows and wondered what they were. They end up being nothing, as shadows appear alot when hunting... you know. Then time started to pass; it was about 9:30 am and all of a sudden I heard a comotion coming my way... I saw BLACK! It was headed in my direction and then I saw it... it was a bear!... NO... is it?.... No, too small.. a cub?... HMMM?
As it got closer, I heard a secondary sound and then depth perception started to help and realized it's too small to be a bear and it turned out to be a fisher!... then two! They started playing around my tree for about 7 or 8 minutes in one little area. There was a brush type pile where multiple trees feel down in one spot and they were running down the logs, under them over them weaving in and out playing! I knew they've been there before. Why? All of a sudden, one jumped up about 4 feet high to grab a vine that was hanging and it would play and hang from it!!! They have very dextrous front paws. They gripped that vine like monkies.
The time went by fast and then they departed as quick as they came. You know, I think that was a gift from above that day. I didn't see any deer, but I didn't care. I had a great hunt that morning!
