does anyone know what happened here ? I think that was a bad move for Trapperman to ban someone that has meant so much to the industry and the fight for trappers . I learned alot from his posts , I hope he comes on here eventually.

Bob has a straight forward tell it like it is with his mind on his sleeve persona that sets people off sometimes. I don't mind someone like that. When I first started reading his posts several years back, I misconstrued his threads as being something they were not, which led me to initially have a chip on my shoulder too. Then I started to realize he doesn't blow smoke or try to water something down to appease those who may have problems with someone being straight up straight forward. Bob is more than welcome here! Anytime a place can get like-minded individuals together giving and sharing their experiences so openly, is a place I want to be, because if all I have to give is my .02 cents to get priceless info. back... that's a good deal in my book!

I like him a whole bunch, and when he talks, a smart trapper listens (not necessarily agrees), Bob has definitely caught a LOT of critters and made money at it, even made a living at it.....

My understanding, is that Bob was banned for a very good reason. He was openly asking on another forum to "borrow" someones password to access a NTA section. As far as I am concerned, that is pretty shady!
I also enjoyed his straight forward posts, but toward the end he was becomming kind of crochety. One time some young kid posted looking for staking help after having a pull-out. Bob replied. He claimed that some non trapping type was going to find his trap on some suffering animal, and everyone was going to loose their trapping rights because of his negligence. His only help was that if he were ever going to learn how to stake his traps properly, that he would have to buy the NTA video.
Not my idea of helpful!

I saw that post from Bob that day and I didn't mind it. He was giving the kid heck, but being straight up about it and hopefully making him think more about how he anchors his traps in the future to avoid such problems. Bob's reply about getting the videos was a prompt to get some good education. It's true that one individual in our sport CAN ruin it for others and that's why you see trappers often reminding each other about minding the laws, checking regulations and be watchful where they set their traps. Several years ago in Montana, it was ONE snareman and ONE dog in a snare that prompted legislation to review different laws. Bob was giving the kid a hard lesson.

Snareman, I don't disagree with what you are saying, but: It still was not helpful. My general impression of Bob is that he is extremely efficient at what he does, and really did post a lot of other helpful information. Notwithstanding, he is arrogent, condescending, intolerant, and could never seem to understand that there are also other ways to accomplish acceptable results. These things really don't bother me, and in fact, I really look up to Bob in a lot of ways. The topic at hand though, implies that it was a mistake to ban Bob from Trapperman. To that I disagree. I spoke with Paul Dobbins at the Minnesota convention soon after the incedent. Paul did seem to feel bad about having to make the decision he did, because of all good information Bob had shared. I agree with Paul that some things just can't be overlooked. This, though is not Trapperman. and I too would welcome him here and on other forums. T-Rex PS I am not a John Kerry "wishy washy" kind of guy, but the topic of Mr Wendt brings up a lot of mixed emotions.

Thanks for the input everyone , I just wanted to say that as I get older and hopefully wiser , I find it easier to look past certain things and to be more tolerant of things . Everyone has thier own way of doing things and nothing will change them except themselves wanting to change. I don't know exactly what happened for sure but one thing I do know is that Bob is a passionate guy when it comes to trapping and the ethics of it and if he comes across a certain way , it was on purpose and I appreciate that . When someone in this industry is as successful as Bob is , you earn the right to throw some wieght around if you want to . Like the rest have said , I hope he feels welcome here and shares his knowledge for all of us to benefit from. L
