I was a fanatical bowhunter for years and was in competitive archery as a sponsored shooter until I quit. My last 5 bows have been Mathews and they have faired well for me. I will be back in the trees again this coming year as I took some time off to trap and hunt with a gun the last 3.

Well snareman, My dad has a Mathews LX fully loaded. It is a heavy bow. My bow weighs well less than his. Don't know why you gave it up though. It is the funnest way to hunt (other than small game).

With limited time, and two kids who like to rifle hunt, I don't bowhunt as much as I used to. Been using a laminated longbow I made, for the past couple of years. A take down recurve I made before that. Started out with a Hoyt Game Getter II. Will probably go back to the recurve this year. I'm just alot more accurate with it than the long bow.

Thanks BOWHUNTER for the info, I also have heard nothing bad about PSE, and they are affordable so I think PSE will be a good choice for my first bow.

I do about half of my bowhunting with a 20 year old PSE lazer !When I bought it it was the most expensive hunting bow on the market.I killed elk ,muledeer, bear ,and a bunch of whitetails with it.I use a heritage long bow for half of my hunting now !In Wis. I get 5-6 weeks bowhunting in before trapping starts.Don

I think sbhooper has a good point. PSE does without a doubt make an excellant product, but most all of the other bows will do the trick. I would recommend you go to a proshop if there is one in the area and shoot a couple of models in different brands. Buy what you like the feel of shooting. When my wife bought me my first bow hundreds of years ago, I ended up getting a lower end hoyt just because I liked the way it shot. No cams, no overdraws, no bells and whistles. Could shoot circles around the guys with the more expensive set ups at target leagues and it was more than adequet for the animals I shot with it.
