Saw a jennings cmx at the pro shop. . . didn't have time to shoot, but any thoughts on it out there? I've shot Hoyt and Mathews in days past, but want to get back in inexpensively to shoot with my son.

I don't even know what they look like. There was a day when I knew about every bow on the market, but I've been out of competition archery for a while and now bowhunting is only a minor passion... compared to a fanatical interest that it use to be.
Just wanted you to consider Martin bows too if you're still looking. While I shoot Mathews, they are spendy and found the Martins, in my opinion, to be one of if not the best value in a bow. An old friend of mine use to sell 6 brands of bows and it was his favorite.
I don't even have any more compounds, as I sold them, but I do have one recurve that will take a whitetail, so that may be my weapon of choice come fall, but I do have an itchin' to get me another Mathews. We'll see how it goes.
Good luck getting your son set up. Being in the deer woods with my father has left me with some great memories.

Thanks for the reply. Which particular model of Martin would you recommend? I would like a longer bow to give option of fingers/release. Also, I am a short draw length 26.5 last time I checked! It's been a while. And, I'm trying to keep the price down too. Thanks.

I don't know the newer ones that have come out lately, but if you want value, check what like Gander Mountain or Cabelas have in their shop, then look at archery shop bows... make a decision what you need as far as poundage, model, lenght, etc... then shop for it at eBay or one of the archery forums. If you look up archery forums on the search engines, you'll find a few that have a classifieds section to request what you are looking for. I've bought used bows from eBay and these archery forums with good luck.
Take Care,
