I set my first traps over 45 years ago. Learned the hard way--self-taught by trial and error. Lots of errors. There is a long learning curve when you have a poor teacher ;D ;D ;D and no internet. Still have a lot to learn, but the learning is a large part of the fun. Creek you aren't old yet, you are just getting started! Although you may notice in a few years that the creek banks will start to get steeper and the hills will start to get longer. ;D ;D

Set my first tarp at 8 and have not missed a season in 24 years. Started snaring when it became legal in 96' and can finally say i am good at it but still try to improve each season.I even turned my love of trapping it into a successful business 10 years ago. I shudder to think where I would be without trapping.

Set my first traps close to 52 yrs ago Used to buy #1 LS for 25 cents apiece. Used rat traps for weasels and still do. Set spring pole snares for coyote, Deadfalls for bobcats and snares plus deadfalls for beaver. Learned from my grandfather,a Souix Warrior and my Dad a Souix Warrior. Been tracking and trapping predators of one kind or another ever since. Guess I'm still learning also. Always something new to learn. ;D

Set a couple of snares in 2003 for four days (house fire ended that season). Caught a red. This year was really my first season. Thoroughly enjoyed it and probably got 75% of my catch with snares (excluding rats, didn't set snares for them). Like messing w/the footholds, but in this snowy country, snares rule.

I started trapping when I was 14 and missed a couple years, so probably close to 15 years.

This was my first season.I am 15 and got started in late Jan. :'(My parents don't really support me on it that much, but I have a neighbor who took me out(military, he left dor 60 days, so season is over now daaang beaver!) But I got hooked when I caught my first coon in my FIRST set! Can't wait to trap next season. I'll try my best not to miss a single one! And next year my dad(lives away) plans to teach me how to trap rats.YES!
